01 / WHY SCEF

A controlled boundary between core and application.

External applications need a defined boundary to the mobile core. Pi SCEF is the Service Capability Exposure Function that mediates supported procedures through T8 APIs, authenticates access and applies traffic limits. NB-IoT is a key deployment scenario.

02 / WHAT YOU CAN DO

SCEF capabilities

01

Efficient non-IP delivery

Exchange data with IoT devices using Non-IP Data Delivery. Support acknowledged transfer, device triggering and group operations.

02

Keep applications informed

Use Monitoring Events (MONTE) to inform applications about supported device status changes. Use HTTPS to protect T8 API communication with external applications.

03

Buffer through interruptions

Pi extends SCEF with uplink buffering for periods when an application server is temporarily unavailable.

04

Control access and traffic

Manage application server access, address allowlists and uplink/downlink limits. Monitor traffic volume and log abnormal access attempts.

03 / BUILT TO BE OPERATED

Deployment and operations

Operational visibility

Inspect hourly and daily traffic, buffer sizes and device registration diagnostics in the administrative web interface.

Fit your network

Configure Diameter message formats and node connections. Export monitoring metrics to external systems, including SNMP integrations.

Plan for resilience

Plan a geo-redundant configuration around your service availability requirements and network topology.

Questions about SCEF

How can SCEF support new revenue opportunities?

An operator can make supported data-delivery and monitoring capabilities part of an enterprise or partner service. SCEF supplies controlled technical access; the commercial offer, pricing and charging integration are defined separately around the target customer and use case.

Which standard is Pi SCEF based on?

The Pi SCEF solution is developed in accordance with 3GPP TS 23.682 and provides T8 API access over HTTP and HTTPS.

How is buffering configured for an application?

Buffering limits and operating policies are set for the deployment. Agree the expected interruption window and delivery requirements when integrating an application server.

Is an Application Server included?

It is optional. It can provide device-data visualization, event rules, history and REST or Kafka integrations, configured for customer needs. SCEF can also connect to an existing application server or Pi IoT Hub.

From product to deployed solution.

Tadam assesses your requirements, integrates Pi SCEF with your systems and prepares the solution for production. We support its integrations and configuration, with 8×5 or 24/7 coverage by agreement.
